It is a plumbing segment that ensures proper escape of sewer gases. It prevents the waste or sewer gases from coming back into the spaces of the home. The water-seal in the trap keeps the waste gases on the other side of the membrane. Also, the traps hold the objects that are not meant to be drained. In fact, the traps are known as ‘traps’ owing to this particular function.
There are different types of traps that are commercially available in the market. The drum traps are one of them. Though the drum traps are not popular with the masses anymore but they still offer some advantages over the other types of traps (s-traps and p-traps). If your plumbing setup is outfitted with a working drum trap then there is no need to call for the replacement.
In order to locate the drum traps in your home, observe the floor area close to a plumbing drainage system (such as sinks, bathtubs, toilets etc). A large-sized cap visible on the surface of the floor indicates the presence of a drum trap underneath the setting. The cap is mounted on a small-sized steel drum that traps the drained items.
The ease of access associated with the drum traps is one thing that popularized them sometime back. This feature helps the plumbers a lot during the unclogging job of the drainage pipe. When you’re working with the large-sized access cap of the drum trap, it is advised to keep a large container at your disposal. Often, water gushes out of the trap once the cap is opened and hence, the container would absorb the flow of water.
