What this means, of course is that we can take appetizer recipes from all over the world, and enjoy them all. You can even combine cuisines and make fusion appetizers. It is easy to use your imagination when you make appetizers.

In China, appetizers are called dim sum. This category of recipes covers a wide range of dishes. In some authentic Chinese restaurants, you can order dim sum and choose the dishes you want off of a rolling cart. Dim sum can also be served at parties. You can order it from a catering company, some Chinese restaurants or you can learn to make it yourself. Japanese sushi can also be used as appetizers. There are many different types of sushi and each one can be eaten in one or two bites. Indian satay and other exotic dishes from India can be used as appetizers. They may include seafood, chicken or spicy vegetables.

Antipasto is the name for Italian appetizers. Antipasto means “before the meal.” These appetizers may contain sun-dried tomatoes, dried meats, cheeses, or salads. Other good Italian options are fresh bread slices drizzled with olive oil or dishes of olives served with your meal.

Spain has elevated appetizers to a true art form known as tapas. Tapas bars are everywhere in Spain. These bars offer liquid refreshment and buffets of appetizers to temper the affects of the alcohol. Spanish appetizers may be made of olives, cured meats, or cheeses, among other things. It is said that King Alfonso X decreed that wine could only be served with food in order to inhibit drunkenness.

In the United Kingdom, appetizers are called starters. France calls appetizers hors d’oeuvres, canapes, or amuse-bouche. In Sweden, the word smorgasbord refers to appetizers. They may be made of herring, salmon or eel as well as cheese, butter and bread. It is traditional in Sweden to eat cold foods, then hot foods and to keep the meal alternating back and forth between the two types of dishes.

In Greece and the Middle East, appetizers are known as “meze.” They like deep fried foods served with creamy dips that are based on yogurt. In South and Central America, seafood is one of the choice ingredients. Shrimp is one of the most popular choices for appetizers. Tortillas are often served with dips. In the Caribbean, you can often find coconut chips as appetizers.

Everything You Ever Wanted to Know about Party Food

Sunday, March 7th, 2010

No matter the season, there is always time for a party! Great parties need great food. One of the biggest issues when you are planning a party is how much food do you really need. There is a good general rule of thumb to follow when you are trying to feed a crowd.

Are you wanting to have a formal supper or finger food? This can change the amount of food you need. For a large meal, the general consensus is to plan for a pound and a half of edibles per person. If you want finger food, you can reduce that to around a pound per person. You may need to adjust this if your friends are big eaters or small eaters. You know them best!

When eating finger foods, the average person tends to eat approximately 5 pieces an hour for the first two hours they are there. Figure in three more per hour after that. So, you would need approximately 130 appetizers for a party of ten people that lasted three hours. If you are also providing a meal, you can serve fewer appetizers.

If you like fondue, this is a great party appetizer. You should plan on a single guest eating about 20 bread cubes that are 1 inch each in size. This is about half of a French bread loaf. If you are serving other foods for fondue, consider that one person can eat 6 ounces of seafood, 4 to 6 ounces of cheese, 4 cookies, or 6 to 8 ounces of meat, fruit, or veggies. Be sure to prepare generously… it is better to have leftovers than not enough.

All that food will make people thirsty. About one gallon of punch can serve ten people. This calculation figures each person will have three 4-ounce servings. You may want to make more if you think you will need it. If you are planning on a cocktail party, you will want to figure that each guest will average two drinks per person per hour for the first two hours of your party, then one drink per hour for the rest of the party.

Do not forget the ice! Plan on 1 pound of ice per person if you are serving iced drinks. In the summer weather, you will need to increase your amount of ice per person to keep them cool and refreshed. Do not skimp on the napkins or small appetizer plates.

You will want to plan on at least a couple of easy party appetizers to start off any party. Your guests will enjoy having some light snacks even if you are planning a meal. You can make many appetizers ahead of time so you are not too rushed. Planning your party should begin several weeks in advance and preparation can begin earlier in the week.

If your party is more spur of the moment, you can always keep a few easy appetizer recipes on hand with some basic ingredients. You will be able to whip some up quickly as everyone arrives.

Make ahead appetizers are great time savers. Instead of adding more that needs to be done at the last minute, you can make these easy appetizers the day before and they’ll be waiting for whenever your guests arrive. You want to enjoy your guests while they are there, after all instead of spending all your time in the kitchen.

Everything You Ever Wanted to Know about Healthy Snacks

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

Just because you have promised to eat healthy doesn’t mean you need to torture yourself during the holidays or at snack time. You may see others eating lots of sugary treats, but you know that’s not good for you. You can still enjoy lots of snacks and appetizers that taste great and are good for you. Serve some to your friends at your next party and see how quickly they are eaten.

A healthy option that is also colorful is salsa. Make your own chunky salsa with mangos, peaches, peppers, tomatoes and onions. It is extra colorful and can be served in a bowl as a snack to accompany tortillas or chips. You can easily make it into an appetizer by placing a small spoonful on each chip or cracker and setting them out on a platter. Let the color show itself off!

If you have some experience in the kitchen, try making some California rolls. Crab is one luxury most people can’t turn down. The nori, also known as the dried seaweed used for sushi, can be found at your local Asian shop. Make some for lunch or a snack in the afternoon. Make up a few rolls and slice them for a quick appetizer. This sushi is safe for everyone… there is nothing raw. Everyone will be amazed at your culinary expertise.

Bruschetta is a great light snack. Toast a few slices of French bread until they are brown. Top it off with some chopped tomatoes and herbs. Melt a little cheese on it if you wish. This will get rid of the munchies! You can also make up a bunch and serve them at a party or gathering as an appetizer. The same goes for a healthy pizza recipe. Cook one up for a light meal or snack. For easy appetizers, just cut the pizza into bite size pieces and serve.

If salad is your thing, this one is great. Make your favorite green salad with all the goodies. Chop up all the ingredients so they are small. Toss them with your favorite dressing. Dig right in for a delicious, fast snack or meal. For some fun and healthy appetizers, drop a spoonful or two of salad into a lettuce leaf and wrap it up. Fasten it with a fancy toothpick and your salad rolls are ready to go.

Finger foods make terrific snacks. Think what you can do with a simple can of olives, some cheese and some tomatoes. Arrange some of each on a plate for a simple, healthy snack. Add a few crackers if you wish for the cheese. For a quick appetizer, get some skewers and slide on an olive, some cheese and a cherry tomato. It’s the perfect appetizer… it’s food on a stick! It’s portable! Everyone will love these quick little kebabs.

When it comes to holiday appetizer recipes you can apply these same principles to come up with healthy alternatives to sugary, high fat choices. You can serve appetizers that look delicious and taste just as good as they look. Give your guests a healthy choice at your next holiday party. Bring them to parties you attend. Spread the health.

Lots of these snacks and appetizers are easy and take only minutes to make. This causes you less stress on days when you are already running late, but they let you eat the nutrients you need in a snack that tastes great. Try some and you’ll find it is easy to change any unhealthy eating habits.

Making easy Superbowl party recipes means that you can prepare all your snacks well in advance and relax with your guests when the game starts. There are lots of Superbowl recipes to choose from and meat snacks, like chicken wings, ribs and hot dogs, are always incredibly popular. These kinds of storage containers are very adaptable. They come in lots of different styles, ranging from really small (for small leftovers) to large (for purposes including covering large cakes). These kind of storage containers include lids, and these are essential to keeping the food fresher.

One of the excellent things about it is that it’s long-lasting and adaptable as a result of its durability. Unlike other containers made for keeping food fresh, these storage containers usually do not split easily. They can last decades and thus they’re worth a bit of an investment.

A Review On The Blue Man Group

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

Giving reviews is an easy job when you do it blindly. But I am here to give a review that would really justify the credentials of this amazing group. The actual reason I am writing this review is because of the fact that I personally witnessed the mind blowing performance of the Blue man group show recently. The Blue man group is an extremely talented group of theatrical performers i.e. theatre artists who brought in a new dimension to the entire art of stage performance. This group was formed by the famous Phil Stanton, Chris Wink and Matt Goldman. .

The performers or the people associated with the Blue man group are simply amazing and each of their shows creates such an enchanting and intriguing atmosphere that you will be taken to a completely different world. These guys are peculiar with their performances. Rather than using the crude term “peculiar”, I would tell that these guys are distinct in their each of their performances. The Blue man group show is a combination of music, drama, comedy and non-verbal communication. But this group cannot be classified as a music band or drama group, they can be only called as the Blue man group.

The Blue Man group show is one of the longest running theatrical shows in the entire United States and I am really ashamed of the fact that I never witnessed any of their performances earlier. Each show would have three mysterious performers masked with a blue bald cap. These performers are normally referred to as people with no ears. The attire of these three performers is completely black. This trio of performers has expertise in various fields of non-verbal communication, dancing, percussion etc. The other interesting thing about these performers is the fact that they are of the same physical traits and features.

The main themes of most of their shows are science and technology where they explain to the audience about the vagaries of ill-usage of technology. The show in which I was a part of was about the adverse effects of increased usage of mobile phones. I was really amazed with the way in these three anonymous performers expressed things in an apparently clear manner. The other themes of the Blue man group show include portraying hunger, innocence, mimes, cultural norms etc. The thing which I liked the most about the Blue man group is that none of the themes contain adultery or any offending themes. I am really finding it difficult to use the right kind of words about this amazing group as words are not enough to explain their excellence.

So, I urge all of you to personally go and watch their live performance. Blue man group tickets can be purchased very easily. And the most important thing is that they conduct several shows in a day. So, even if you find it difficult to buy tickets for one particular show, you can very well adjust with the other scheduled show. The easiest way of getting blue man group tix is the internet.

Ticketstoseats.com is your one stop shop for everything Blue Man Group. At their website you will find the cheapest prices on Blue Man Group Concert Tickets They have low overhead which allows you to find the seats you want at the lowest cost. Visit their siteClick here for Concert Tickets

3 Fun Games to Play at Your Next Tea Party

Friday, February 5th, 2010

Tea parties are making a comeback, and what is a party without games? Here are some games that are sure to bring giggles from all of your lovely guests.

The first game I am going to tell you about is called Teacup Swap. Each guest needs to have a teacup and saucer to play. Either provide one for each of your guests or let them know they need to bring one that they are willing to spare in the invitation.

When the guests arrive, have them sit at the tea table and place their cups and saucers in front of them.

Then have everyone stand up and walk around the table(s), admiring the different patterns and designs. After everyone has finished looking, let the first guest (or the oldest, or the youngest, you get the picture) choose a cup.

Continue in the order in which the guests arrived, or you can go in age order, or have numbers drawn from a hat.

It is lots of fun if you keep the fact that they will be trading teacups a secret. Just make sure that those bringing their own know that they should make sure they bring a teacup that they don’t mind giving away.

Everyone is a winner and they all get to take home a pretty new teacup!

Try playing Tea Tasting with up to 10 people at your next tea party. This game is lots of fun. You will need a few teapots and a small inexpensive prize.

Find a few different teas and prepare each in a separate teapot.

Give each guest a little bit of the teas, keeping the flavor a secret. Serve everyone one flavor at a time.

Go through each flavor in the same way, and at the end the best guesser can win a small trinket if you would like.

Don’t forget to write down what tea is in which pot so you don’t get confused!

Try buying different herbal teas that have distinct flavors for those at the party that do not normally drink tea.

If you have a mixed tea flavor, make sure it is one that is well known. A strange, unfamiliar flavor combo with be confusing to your guests. The easier this game is the better, so stick to what they know for the most part.

These teas should be familiar to your guests and have contrasting flavors:

Peppermint

Rose Hip

Orange Zest

Green Tea

Lavender

Chai

Chamomile

Ginger

Raspberry

For a fun and silly game at a relaxed tea party, have each guest make a tea party hat.

You will probably need materials, and a dollar store or a craft store clearance sale will probably carry everything you need.

Most people get very creative when decorating hats, so most craft supplies will work.

Here are some ideas of what to provide:

Silk flowers

Ribbons

Lace

Buttons

Beads

Thread

Bells

Fabric

1′ x 1′ pieces of organza or tulle work wonderfully. They bunch up well and are lightweight.

Hot glue guns are needed for this project, so make sure you have some handy. Make sure you have one for every two people.

No hot glue guns? Not to worry. Just buy some quick drying craft glue while you are at the craft store.

When everyone has finished, award a prize to the best hat. Or let everyone win by awarding a funniest hat prize, a prettiest hat prize, the biggest hat prize, etc.

Make sure you check out my web pages on tips and tricks for hosting a tea party, and ideas for tea party favors.
