The right candid photograph can be a wonderful candidate for a portrait painting. Snapping a picture while the subjects are in the act of something spontaneous gives the image a genuine and authentic feel. Such lovely shots of candid moments add life and vibrancy to beautiful oil paintings.
We have seen the candid photographs of our family, friends, loved ones’ and those are probably their best shots. These great snapshots of candid moments are great for oil paintings. Here are some ways which you can go about capturing candid pictures.
First you need to carry your camera around! Why, you might ask. Well, you can never know for sure when those unique moments arise. You have to be all ready to grab every opportunity which comes your way! Alternatively, should you forget to carry your camera, you can always use your camera phone.
It is nice to have a high quality, high resolution photo for converting into an oil painting. Nevertheless our artists are capable of turning a poorly lit, low resolution or blurry picture from a camera phone into a beautiful painting.
Now, we have to ensure that the subject is unaware that they are being photographed. If not, you will be able to sense a change in their behavior, making them more self conscious. This is attributed to the works of the subconscious mind and applies to animals as well!
The goal of candid photography is have something unposed, and unplanned. Once you step into your subjects’ personal space with a camera, their interactions will no longer be as spontaneous.
To be as unobtrusive as possible, use the zoom feature of you camera to remain at a distance. Also, it helps to turn off the flash. Even when you are outside of their personal space a blinding flash will always be distracting.
If staying out of the subjects’ personal space is not feasible, continue snapping pictures for a prolonged period of time. Subsequently, they will lose focus on your lens and carry on what they were previously doing. This brings us to our next tip:
Take lots of photos! Since digital cameras do not waste film, there is no need to be shy about taking multiple photographs. It is always a good idea to get multiple shots, since one may turn up blurry, the subject may suddenly blink or anything else that will take away from the quality of the image.
It will be useful should your camera have the continuous shooting mode. Do make full use of it to capture that perfect candid moment which you desire. Then, your oil painting will look great as well!
Take pictures from multiple angles and perspectives. A popular approach is to aim the camera from an elevation below the subjects’ eyes. People literally shoot from the hips. You can crouch down, or take a picture from the story above. Mixing up the angles make the photographs more exciting and creative.
Photograph the subjects when are interacting with another subject or performing a task. With them interaction in place, the subjects will be less aware of you being near them.
The shots captured will definitely be more interesting as you able feel the level of involvement between the people or the activities. It injects life and emotions to the image.
This is in sharp contrast to traditional portrait photography where the subjects are posing and appear static.
Now you are all ready to create your own candid shots. Remember that unique moments need to be treated specially. And a portrait painting is all that you need to cherish those precious moments.
