Pakistan Flood Crisis Is Still Unfolding

Pakistan has been hit by one of the most devastating natural disasters in history. Floods have raveged the country. Rains are continuing, with floods spreading south into the provinces of Sindh and Balochistan. To date more than 16.8m people have been directly affected by the floods. Up to 8m people are in need of urgent humanitarian assistance. The latest death toll stands at 1504. 2,054 people are confirmed as injured. Over 1 million houses are damaged or destroyed.

ActionAid are one of the many charity organisations on the ground in Pakistan. They can see firsthand what effect the flood is having on communities. “Children are hungry and malnourished. Women cry as they share their stories of horror and destruction. Some of them have lost sleep after losing their homes. I can see nothing but trauma and tragedy everywhere” says Zakaria Nutkani from ActionAid in Pakistan.

120,000 people is the figure ActionAid desire to reach with aid. So far 40,000 people have received our help and aid in eight different districts. Food stocks are dwindling fast and in many instances they have been completely washed away. All that is left is food for up to four or five days.
